Service Academy Day

The offices of Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy and Representatives Julia Letlow and Mike Johnson will be hosting a Service Academy Day event on April 22, 2023 from 8:30 to Noon at Louisiana Tech’s Integrated Engineering and Science Building in Ruston. More details are in the flyer attached to this email, and the event is free.

The event is for high school students and eighth graders who want to enter a Service Academy in the summer/fall of 2024, 2025, 2026 or 2027. We plan to have representatives from West Point and the U.S. Naval, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine Academies, as well as from Army and Air Force ROTC units at Grambling and Louisiana Tech. They will make presentations and take questions from student and parents on their programs. Graduates from the first four America’s Service Academies receive a bachelor’s degree and a commissioned officer slot in the military, with Merchant Marine Academy graduates receiving their degree and the choice to commission into the military or immediately work in the maritime industry. West Point and the Naval and Air Force Academies also do not charge tuition or fees.

Additionally, there will be a presentation on the Congressional nominations process. Anyone who wants to attend West Point or the U.S. Naval, Air Force and Merchant Marine Academies need a nomination, and most nominations come from Members of Congress.

Please share this flyer with your students and parents. They can RSVP by emailing me directly, or by emailing one of the other people on the flyer.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks.
