The offices of Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy, Speaker Mike Johnson and Representative Julia Letlow will be hosting Service Academy Day on the campus of LSU-Shreveport on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The event will be at the University Center Theatre, with registration opening at 8:30 AM and the event beginning at 9 AM. All high school students and their parents, as well as school officials, are welcome to attend for free.
Representatives from America’s Service Academies, including West Point and the Naval and Air Force Academies, will make presentations on what their Academies have to offer. If a student gains admittance to one of those Academies, they will graduate with a bachelor’s degree and become a commissioned officer in our Armed Forces. Additionally, the three Academies mentioned above are tuition-free. We also plan to have presentations from ROTC units attached to Universities in North Louisiana, and a presentation on the Congressional nominations process. Students must receive a nomination to be considered for admittance to most Service Academies, and most nominations come from Members of Congress.
Later, students, parents and other attendees will be able to visit the booths of the Service Academies, ROTC units and Members of Congress, and ask questions.
Please share the attached flyer with your students and parents. Again, any high school student interested in the Academies is welcome to attend.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks and have a wonderful week.
